CBK calm down

ENDLESS hoo ha around the Ryan Murphy production of Love Story which will document the doomed John F Kennedy Jr and Carolyn Bessette and shall premiere next year on Valentines Day (ADOPT THINK PIECE BRACE POSITION).

According to Jack Schlossberg (slightly nutty/social media trigger happy son of Caroline Kennedy, JFK Jr’s sister) the family have had no input/control/association with the production. Which adds A Taste.

Fashion people and general internet flotsam were UP IN ARMS over the released imagery because of the costumes which were deemed cheap and wrong (tbf).

Really, there’s nothing like a sea of foaming at mouth hot takes over a slither of information, or in this case, a few pictures. Gossip Girl Lauren Sherman scooped an interview with Murphy where he pulled out a litany of WE HAVE THE RIGHT BIRKIN, WE HAVE THE YOHJI AND CALVIN AND PRADA BOOTS defence. Just when you thought quiet luxury could slink off stealthily…

Along with Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana, Bessette is part of the triumvirate of tragic blondes which are raked over and over into oblivion, so that no leaf of humanity is left of them. They are women who have been reduced and relegated to a mood board. Serving to offer little more than to re-enforce the claustrophobically narrow interpretation of “beauty” in a landscape which professes to want diversity but in reality, blonde, rich and thin will always be it.

And honestly, I really think its very weird to be quite so obsessed with them. Saddened by their plight, sure. Inspired by their way with a pencil skirt, OK. But more than that is just creepy. Lol also CBK would absolutely have not let you sit with her.

Stop don’t shop

Last week while I was debating Net-a-porter sale finds, something occurred to me. Shopping in a heat wave is like going to the supermarket when you’re hungry. Unadvised. It’s a total grab and go, lack of discernment and abandonment of your core principles. You didn’t really want the dubious looking vine leaves which were part of the 3 for £7 picky bits picnic-y bundle and nor do you really want the many layered, brightly coloured Zara headache you’ve just decided will be your entire new personality.

I drew back from the website, and honestly I can’t even remember what it was that I thought I might like. As much as I do like a “thing” I find more and more pleasure from not buying something. From leaving it there. Living in the same clothes isn’t boring. It makes them more comforting, the way your favourite sweatshirt falls, the easy worn in soother of a soft pair of jeans, the puckered leather of a years old sandal.

Beige update

In beige oversaturation news: Spotted, woman in full linen trouser and top co-ord, paired with beige Crocs and beige Stanley cup. Truly capitalism has done its best.

Black is back

As much as we are about to be bombarded with ostentation out of Venice for the Sanchos wedding, I actually think this summer is turning out to be more low key. Everyone is wearing black (apart from those stuck in beige-oblivion).

I stayed at a fancy-ish hotel this weekend and every woman in the pool was in a black costume, which felt key. I have two great black costumes. One is a Marks and Spencer Good Move one - it has a zip down the front which feels quite punchy for a local leisure centre, but it is a brilliant, proper for swimming in cossie and a great fit.

My other is a Hunza G - essential point - from their Coverage range which is one size to fit up to an 18 (there is absolutely more room in mine for more bottom/tummy). The Coverage range is important because it’s not as high leg or low back as their classic ones if one likes to retain a little more mystery around one’s low regions. Re: The crinkle fabric - it stays put (helpful for lengths) and won’t do that annoying disintegration which other flat poly-fibres do (is there anything sadder than a cossie which has “gone”?). But, it does take an AGE to dry which is a mega bore.

The only caveat I have here is that head to toe white is running a very close second - or mix and match if you will - to a full black summer. If I was going to buy anything it would be this Albaray denim T-shirt which I’ve been eyeing up for months, and honestly feel it would be quite the essential addition.

Ruff!

The one thing I wish I could have shopped though was this 1620’s linen shaggy edged ruffler. Isn’t it incredible! Sold by Kerry Taylor Auctions and had been stored for some decades in a plastic bag when the, one should imagine, pretty thrilled owner inherited it from an elderly neighbour.

Quite obsessed with the Pope in a baseball cap?
